Oil-less Healthy snack-in- a- jiffy!

Think of an evening tea-time snack, and visions of high-calorie food-stuff come floating before your eyes....Banish those thoughts and try out this basic recipe!!
Ideal as a healthy snack especially since its not prepared in oil. I have also read that fox-nut is helpful in arthritis as well as in rheumatism. According to the traditional school of medicine, it is also known to be analgesic and  detoxifying. Not only this, fox nuts also have cardio-protective properties.( Ref.Das S, et al. The effect of Euryale ferox (Makhana), an herb of aquatic origin, on myocardial ischemic reperfusion injury. Mol Cell Biochem 289(1-2):55-63, Sep 2006)
Similarly, ground nuts or peanuts, are an excellent source of protein, Vitamin E,and fibre. Most of the fat content of peanuts is monounsaturated, which in a way helps in reducing the harmful LDL choleserol.
In fact, research confirms that eating a portion of peanuts, or peanut butter, every day may help reduce the risk of heart disease, type II diabetes and gallbladder disease, without the risk of weight gain. You can also see from the following points, how useful peanuts are:

  1. Peanuts contain resveratrol, plant sterols and other phytochemicals which research is indicating have cardio-protective and cancer inhibiting properties.
  2. Peanuts and peanut butter contain beneficial minerals such as zincmagnesium, copper and selenium.
  3. Peanuts and peanut butter contain B-vitamins, folate and Vitamin E
  4. Peanuts and peanut butter are natural sources of soluble and insoluble fibre.
  5. Peanuts and peanut butter are plant foods and contain no cholesterol.
  6. Peanuts have a very low glycaemic index (14).
